Notes
Spaghetti Bolognese is a classic Italian pasta dish featuring a rich and flavorful meat sauce served over al dente spaghetti. It's a hearty and satisfying meal that is loved by both kids and adults.
Ingredients
- 500 grams (1.1 lbs) ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, finely diced
- 2 celery stalks, finely diced
- 800 grams (28 oz) canned crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper (adjust to taste)
- ¼ cup red wine (optional)
- 400 grams (14 oz) spaghetti
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon or spatula.
- Step 2: Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, diced carrots, and diced celery to the skillet. Cook for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
- Step 3: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. If desired, add the red wine to enhance the flavor. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Step 4: While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the cooked pasta in a colander.
- Step 5: Serve the spaghetti on plates or bowls, and ladle the Bolognese sauce on top. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves, if desired.
