Notes
Classic Lasagne is a layered pasta dish with a rich meat sauce, creamy béchamel, and cheese. It requires some preparation but is well worth the effort for its delicious flavors and comforting textures.
Ingredients
- 9 lasagne sheets
- 500g ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 800g canned crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 500ml béchamel sauce
- 200g grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Step 2: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the lasagne sheets according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
- Step 3: In a skillet or frying pan, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they turn translucent and fragrant.
- Step 4: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until it is browned and cooked through. Break up any large chunks of meat with a wooden spoon or spatula.
- Step 5: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce over low heat for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Step 6: While the sauce is simmering, prepare the béchamel sauce. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and whisk until well combined. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
- Step 7: To assemble the lasagne, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. Place a layer of lasagne sheets on top, followed by more meat sauce and a drizzle of béchamel sauce. Repeat the layers until all the ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of béchamel sauce.
- Step 8: Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top of the lasagne.
- Step 9: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Step 10: Once baked, remove the lasagne from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
